A guiding unit in #Belmont, #Surrey, celebrated turning 100 this Summer. Formed in July 1917, 1st Belmont Guides has been active in Belmont for 100 years, supporting the community and offering local girls adventure, support, fun and friendship.
#Rainbows, #Brownies, #Guides and #SeniorSection from the district came together to enjoy traditional activities, as younger members heard from alumni who had been part of the unit as far back as 1950, about what Girlguiding was like in the past, sharing their memories, pictures and badges.
Sophie,13, said “It was really interesting hearing about how guiding used to be and we learnt lots of fun things like putting up tents and building fires. ”
Angeline, aged 10 said “I really enjoyed the day. It was a lot of fun doing everything together.”
Senior Section member Heather, 16, said “It was really great to get everyone together to enjoy fun traditional guiding activities especially singing round the campfire and roasting marshmallows.”
The girls designed a commemorative badge and came up with clauses, which need to be completed in order to earn the badge.
Congratulations to Belmont Guides and look forward to the next Centenary of Girlguiding in the local area as part of #LondonandSouthEastRegion
#Girlguiding is currently recruiting for more volunteers to help deliver their exciting programme to over 400,000 girls and young women across the UK.
