Disney’s Beauty and the Beast
Rainbows, Brownies and Guides from the boroughs of Kingston. Merton, Richmond and Sutton attended an exclusive girl-only screening of the live action release of Disney’s Beauty and the Beast film last weekend.
The girls were among more than 26,000 Girlguiding members who attended the mass screening on Saturday 18 March, which took place at ODEON cinemas across the UK.
The eagerly-awaited film remake sees Emma Watson play Belle as an inventor, giving a feminist twist to the Disney classic.
A brownie aged 8 from Carshalton, who attended the event, said: “it was brilliant — I thought it was funny when the people all became normal at the end and the man had no teeth!”
Andy Edge, Commercial Director at ODEON UK & Ireland, said: “We are thrilled to be working with Girlguiding to host these exclusive screenings of the magical Beauty and the Beast before it is released nationwide at ODEON Cinemas. Supporting the local community is hugely important to us and it was a pleasure welcoming so many excited Girl Guides through our doors to enjoy the new animation of the tale as old as time.”
Lead actress Emma Watson, who routinely speaks out against gender stereotyping, was voted one of Girlguiding members’ top 10 inspiring women in a poll last year.
